Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on, technically minded project manager to lead smart home and building automation projects from conception to completion. This key role involves combining technical expertise with on-site coordination and client communication. You will be responsible for planning, designing and delivering projects that meet Smart Homes Japan’s quality standards and client expectations.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced international environment, enjoy solving complex problems and take ownership of their work. You will collaborate with our technical, design and operations teams to deliver advanced automation systems for luxury homes, hotels and commercial spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and manage smart home and building automation projects from design to handover.
  • Conduct site assessments and develop technical documentation and system design packages.
  • Coordinate with contractors, architects, suppliers and clients to align schedules and deliverables.
  • Ensure successful outcomes by managing project budgets, timelines, and quality.
  • Oversee and support installation, commissioning and testing when required.
  • Manage subcontractors and maintain strong relationships with local service providers.
  • Produce weekly project progress reports and updates for clients.
  • Provide post-installation support and coordinate maintenance.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and system integrations.
  • Support sales and pre-project planning with technical input and design concepts.

Skills & Requirements

  • Strong technical background in engineering, electrical systems or AV/network installations.
  • Ability to read and produce technical drawings (CAD experience preferred).
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with technical teams, suppliers and clients.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proactive, reliable and self-motivated, taking strong ownership of tasks.
  • Fluent in Japanese (written and spoken), with English proficiency for communicating with suppliers and the internal team.
  • Comfortable with occasional travel and flexible working hours.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience of managing construction, automation or integration projects.
  • Familiarity with smart home technologies such as Control4, Lutron and KNX.
  • Knowledge of project management tools or software.
  • Hands-on experience of installation, commissioning or testing.
